(CNN)  We're getting a first look at the federal government's new quit smoking campaign.
The 54-million-dollar multi-media blitz is called "Tips From Former Smokers."
It's designed to educate Americans about the dangers of smoking through the stories of ex-smokers who now suffer from a variety of illnesses.
The ads are the brainchild of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office on Smoking and Health.
The campaign begins Friday.
