ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Linda Loforte used to serve and protect. Now, instead of catching criminals, it`s Krullers and cake donuts for this couple.

Frank and Linda are former crime fighters. But they gave up the adrenaline rush for a sugar rush.

"And donuts don't shoot at you so that's a positive," laughs Frank.

Instead of arrest warrants, the long arm of the law is serving up Long Johns.

"One of our most popular is a bacon donut," says Frank Loforte. "It's a Long John with maple glaze and crispy applewood bacon."

So how did they know they were kneaded in a bakery?

"My husband is Sicilian so he grew up with Cannolis and Italian pastries everyday,' says Linda.

What began as a half-baked scheme became a family business. And as far as jokes about cops and donut shops go...

"What took you so long to get here?" recalls Linda. "Were you at the donut shop? So why not make light of it?"

"Every time I would get that question while writing tickets people would say go eat a donut and I'm like, "Well I like donuts and I'll have one when I get done writing a ticket," says Frank Loforte.

So he traded that badge for a bag of flour and hasn't looked back.

"How do you not eat a lot of profit?" asks Patrick Clark.

"You know, you have to Patrick," laughs Frank Loforte. "Everyday you see the donuts and you have to have just one. Just to make sure. Yeah, you know, for quality control."
