KIRKWOOD, MO (KTVI) - Five suspects have been arrested for stealing items from 200 unlocked vehicles and driving off with 15 cars in Kirkwood and neighboring communities.

Police say they arrested one suspect on August 13th while occupying a stolen car from Kirkwood. An investigation identified four other suspects in thefts from 200 vehicles. They say the suspects are also responsible for stealing 15 cars. All five of the suspects are current or former residents of Kirkwood.

The vehicles stolen from Kirkwood and Oakland were unlocked with the keys left in the ignition by the owners. The 15 cars were stolen between July 23, 2015, and August 13, 2015.

None of the 200 vehicles were broken into because all of the cars were simply left unlocked. There were at least 10 guns, electronics and cash stolen from the hundreds of vehicles.

Police believe these suspects are responsible for thefts in Glendale, Crestwood, Shrewsbury, Des Peres, Webster Groves, and St Louis County.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney is reviewing the cases. Investigators say the identities of the adults will be withheld pending formal charges.
