ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – A man found a surprising display outside his home on The Hill. Stephen Nowels is a crime victim, “They were stealthy thieves they stole very quietly.”
When Nowels walked out of his home Tuesday morning and looked at his pickup truck he couldn’t believe what he saw. All four wheels and all four tires had been stolen. He said, “So when it I saw I was like really here?”
The suspects used the bricks from Nowels’ retaining wall to jack up the vehicle. Nowels made some calls and discovered new tires and wheels would cost him more than $1,400. When he examined his truck closely he spotted a piece of paper, a police officer had given him a ticket for repairing his truck on the street and putting it on bricks. It was a $30 dollar ticket issued at just after one Tuesday morning.
Nowels said, “I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and he really did assume I was doing repairs on the car.” He added, “I would hope they would give a little clemency.”
Police said they have no intention of making a crime victim pay. They voided the ticket. Apparently, the officer didn’t know at the time that Nowels had been ripped off. Nowels said, “I’m happy they’ll take care of it, awesome.”
Now the search continues for the people responsible for stealing the wheels and tires.
