ORLANDO, FL (KTVI) - Thousands of people gathered in Orlando Florida Monday night to remember the 49 victims killed in yesterday's deadly massacre.

Tonight we are learning the gunman was reportedly a regular at the gay bar that is now the scene of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Residents tonight held a vigil in support the victims of this tragedy.

For a community that has no doubt been vulnerable over the last 36 hours, tonight's vigil on the grounds of the Dr. Phillips Center in downtown Orlando was a massive show of strength and support.

The thousands of people gathered with heavy hearts but a strong determination not to let one man`s act of terror break their spirit.

The event featured an appearance by the owners of Pulse nightclub, the site of this weekend’s attack. They encouraged the crowd to remain prideful in the face of hate.

We caught up with a family who lived in Peoria, Illinois before moving to Orlando 15 years ago.

This vigil was an important opportunity for them to both heal and learn.
