FLORISSANT, Mo. - Detectives with the Florissant Police Department are investigating a murder-suicide involving three people.
According to Officer Steve Michael, a police spokesman, police were dispatched to a home in the 1400 block of East Duchesne for a welfare check. Upon their arrival, officers found the bodies of three people in the same part of the home.
A gun was located in the home and there were no signs of forced entry, Michael said.
“There was a gun located next to one of the deceased,” he said. “They were all located in the same last of the house, so at this point, we believe it’ a domestic incident.”
Florissant police identified the deceased as 31-year-old Giovanni Novoa, 29-year-old Yolanda Novoa, and 6-year-old Ylineh Novoa.
As expected, neighbors living on or near East Duchesne Drive are at a loss for words after hearing a family of three they knew of were found dead inside their home.
“That kind of freaks me out and throws me for a loop,” said neighbor James Freeman. “It's something I’m gonna have to live with because it’s right behind me and it’s going to be a lasting memory.”
Neighbors said even though the family kept to themselves, they were always friendly.
“Good family. A strong family and this man really seemed to love his family, I mean they seemed very tight, and the little girl seemed to be like his angel,” said one neighbor, who asked not to be identified.
For many, disbelief cannot begin to describe the loss being felt all around the neighborhood.
“Life is so fragile and amazing, so a child being killed that young, there are not many words for it, it speaks for itself,” said neighbor Paul Schneider.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The six-year-old was a kindergarten student at Walnut Grove in the Ferguson Florissant Schools District. Counselors will be available to talk to students and staff on Friday.
