ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Sports fans are used to seeing lots of activity at Busch Stadium in September, and even in October. Wednesday, tickets went on sale for an international sporting event happening at the home of the Cardinals in November.

The U.S. Men's National soccer team will play its first home match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying season at Busch Stadium on November 13. By the end of the first day tickets were on sale, only a thousand tickets remained.

"We'll be able to showcase what a great city St. Louis is, and what a sports town, what a soccer town it is to people all over the world," said Vicki Bryant, Vice President of Event Services at Busch Stadium.

After baseball season wraps, the grounds crew will put grass down on the infield and warning track areas to meet FIFA regulations.

Soccer fans are excited their favorite sport is getting recognition in the St. Louis area.

"Everybody talks about this being a baseball city, and I agree with that when it comes to the professional level, but when it's the youth level we're looking at we're a pretty big soccer city," said Johann Arnason, Executive Director of the St. Louis Youth Soccer Association.

The youth league has seen tremendous growth over the past two years with more than 11,000 kids registered to play soccer this season. The rising interest and attention paid to soccer - including the Women's World Cup win - have many local fans hopeful for a professional program.

"All these big events that we've been getting, I think every soccer person in St. Louis hopes in the future it leads to us getting a (Major League Soccer) team."

Bryant said there will be several events planned leading up to the big soccer match at Busch Stadium including a rally and march to the match as well as a concert.
