SPRING GREEN, WI — It’s a dream 90 years in the making for a 103-year-old woman from Wisconsin. Marie Hunt of Spring Green received an honorary high school diploma.

One of eleven children, she dropped out of school after completing eighth grade in the 1920s.

Hunt said, “I was born in 1911, and there was no way that country kids six miles away could go to high school.”

Carrie Georgeson, the RN Administrator at Meadows Assisted Living, said that this was something that Marie wanted to cross off her bucket list.

So Spring Green High School Principal Kimbert Kaukl made it happen. Marie’s honorary degree is the first of its kind handed out by Spring Green High.

Hunt used a walker to get down the hall at the assisted living facility where she lives as “Pomp and Circumstance” played in the background with her fellow residents looking on.
