Artist, Stefan Pabst is creating 3D paintings that look so realistic, it’s almost as though you can reach out and grab them.

The 35-year-old artist living in Germany told BuzzFeed News that he began painting professionally back in 2007. Recently, however, his artwork has gone viral along with YouTube timelapse videos of Pabst creating these paintings.

So what inspired the Pabst to paint life-like artwork?

He said he was bored painting faces for 10 hours a day and wanted to push beyond the boundaries of 2D.

Pabst said some commenters believe the images are fake or created by a computer. However, with the help of his YouTube videos, Pabst is proving his skills are just as real as the paintings he creates.
