LINCOLN CITY, OR – A Subway customer posted a picture of something unusual in his friend’s sandwich to Facebook. Matt Jones writes, “Look at that Beast of a mouse in the spinach at Subway today! Good thing we didn’t bite into it!”
The incident happened in Lincoln City Oregon on October 6th. Jones ordered a teriyaki chicken sandwich with spinach. His friend ordered an Italian sub. He also wanted spinach on his sandwich. The employee scraped out the last spoonful and plopped it on the bread.
The employees and the customer noticed the mouse in the greens immediately.
Subway has issued this statement:
“As soon as the customer alerted the owner about what happened, they were immediately given a full refund and an investigation was launched. To be cautious, all of the products in the sandwich unit were disposed of and a thorough cleaning took place, in which the Health Department gave the restaurant a clean bill of health. There were no other complaints made.”
Investigators tell KGW-TV that the mose probably didn’t come from inside the restaurant. It most likely travelled to Lincoln City from inside the bag of spinach. There was no indication of rodent droppings inside the Subway.
The county health department notified and completed an investigation. They say the risk of anyone becoming sick from the spinach is low.
