PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – A new scam is popping up in parking lots this holiday season. Drivers are finding $100 bills when they return to their cars after shopping. WJLA-TV reports that the money is a ploy being used by carjackers to get at your loot.
Unsuspecting shoppers find the cash tucked under a windshield wiper. In a rush to grab the cash many forget to turn off their cars. Some leave the door wide open for car thieves. The money on the windshield gives scammers a split second of opportunity.
This is just one of many holiday parking lot scams the Maryland attorney general’s office is warning about. They say thieves are using other tactics to get at your goods. According to one report a person yelling for help was really a scammer looking to kidnap an unsuspecting victim.
