FESTUS, MO (KTVI) – Days after being spotted in a heavily wooded area just south of Festus, a Barbados Black Belly ram that became a source of positivity in the area was struck by a vehicle and killed.

Facebook user Robert North posted a picture of the deceased ram in the ‘JeffCo 411’ Facebook group.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed the ram was killed around 7 p.m. on Highway CC, just south of Victoria Road. The person driving the vehicle was uninjured.

The ram was first spotted Saturday in the Sugar Springs subdivision. It is about a mile and a half walk from the subdivision to where the ram died.

Dan Zarlenga of the Missouri Conservation Department said this breed of ram is not native to Missouri and would be an unusual sight in the wild.

“One can assume maybe it may be someone’s pet that escaped or maybe it is an animal from a petting zoo or some kind of agricultural sheep raising operation, hard to say,” he said.
