ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Jon Hamm is an actor from St. Louis. You may have seen him on the hit AMC TV show, “Mad Men.” He is also a huge Cardinal baseball fan. He tells Sports Illustrated what makes Cardinal Nation so great.

Hamm explains, “The interesting about Cardinals Nation is its location is in the center in the country. In the 1950’s and ’60s there was really only the Cubs to the north and not much else. KMOX used to broadcast the Cardinals games on a 50,000 watt clear channel AM signal.  The signal went all the way across the prairie to Nebraska, South Dakota, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee. There are a lot of Cardinals fans out there.

We are also a successful franchise.  It is not like Yankees. We don’t spend the most money on the team and have a great farm system.  The pitching staff is home-grown.  The list includes Rosenthal, Carlos Martinez, Michael Wacha and Shelby Miller. I mean it goes on and on and on. These kids just keep showing up and and blowing down the doors. ”

Ozzie Smith is also one of the greats.  Hamm tells Sports Illustrated that the Wizard could do some amazing things.
