ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – St. Louis is one of about two dozen cities around the country chosen to participate in a digital trick or treat game this Halloween.

It’s through the new app, Metaverse. CEO Dmitry Shapiro says this Halloween it will let you trick or treat like never before.

“This Halloween we wanted to see if we could scare the living daylights out of St. Louis,” Shapiro said.

The app is currently only available for the iPhone and uses a technology called augmented reality, the same used for the popular Pokemon Go App.

Shapiro says you follow clues on your screen and complete tasks that get you money. You might also get spooked along the way.

“We think that those that are brave enough to find them also deserve a reward,” said Shapiro. “So we've hidden big chunks of money.”

Participants will be able to collect anywhere from $5 to $1,000 at stops around the city during a 24 hour period, which starts Halloween morning at 2 a.m.

The money won’t physically be there, you’ll collect the cash virtually. Once players complete the game, the money will be sent to their homes straight out of the CEO’s own pockets.

Players are also encouraged to follow the group on Twitter and Facebook for additional clues and be aware of their surroundings.

“We suggest that people hunt with a friend or group of friends and then you can better understand the clues and have more fun and please, please, please be safe,” Shapiro said.
