Car crashes and fires keep emergency crews busy overnight

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Area fire crews were busy overnight handling crashes and car fires.  Around 4 a.m., a pick up truck driver crashed into a rock bluff on Highway 30 at Gravois Road in Cedar Hill.

The truck caught fire after the crash.  The driver was airlifted to the hospital with possibly broken legs. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

And there was a second crash and car fire around 2 a.m.  Wednesday.  It happened on southbound I-55 past Arsenal.  The driver  crashed into the center median then got out of the vehicle.

Moments later, the car caught fire and burned.  Southbound lanes of Interstate 55 were shut down for a half hour so crews could put out the fire and move the car.
