ST CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – A  wreck that killed two people on westbound Interstate 70 in St. Charles County shut down several lanes of the interstate later Friday and into Saturday. The highway reopened around 3:20am.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident took place on I-70  at Wentzville Parkway under a railroad overpass at Highway Z and involved three passenger vehicles and one tractor-trailer.  The tractor trailer was heading west when a Chevy Silverado driven by Kevin Hase, 26, of Warrenton, MO, tried to pass it on the left shoulder. The truck then struck the median wall and overturned, running into a Ford Escape.  A third car, a Saturn, then attempted to avoid the other two, but could not.

Hase was killed in the crash along with Jeffrey Jackson, 27, of Warrenton, who was a passenger in Hase’s car. Neither was wearing a seat belt. The 38-year-old man driving the Ford Escape also suffered minor injuries.

Wentzville Police and Missouri State Highway Patrol investigators were on the scene for about six hours investigating the crash and cleaning up the scene.
