FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO (KTVI)- FOX 2 has learned more information about a car theft suspect who was shot and killed by police after he drove a truck toward officers. The incident unfolded last night around 9:15pm in Robertsville in Franklin County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating what went down at that shooting scene. Authorities are identifying the man who was shot and killed by police as  Michael Goebel, who turned 29 yesterday.

St. Louis county police confirm Goebel was the main suspect they were after and investigators say Goebel was wanted in several car theft cases.

A St. Louis county police spokesperson told Fox 2 that county police auto theft detectives got information that Goebel was at the Robertsville home. The detectives called officers from Franklin and Jefferson counties for help and then headed out.

Fox 2 was told there were about 15 law officers on the scene when the incident happened. Investigators say officers were surrounding a large detached garage shortly after they arrived at the property. Goebel and others were inside the garage and apparently saw the police. That`s when police say Goebel drove a F-350 pick-up truck right through the garage door and at the officers.

There was another man and a woman in the truck with him.

The F-350 first hit a parked truck outside the garage that truck knocked over an officer who was taking cover behind that vehicle. The officer was not seriously hurt. Police say Goebel then hit three police cruisers and another car trying to get away.

Officers opened fire--Goebel was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The other male passenger in the truck was also shot, but is expected to survive. Police identify the other male passanger as Conrad Markmueller VI. The woman in the car was not hurt.

St. Louis county police say Goebel was a suspect in at least four stolen car cases, among them a Christmas day case at a Dave Sinclair dealership on Lindbergh Boulevard. Police say it was Goebel on surveillance video that shows him crashing through a service bay with a F-350 truck that he had stolen moments earlier.

Investigators are spending much of today at the Robertsville property to see if any more vehicles were stolen.
