ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – The St. Charles County Police Department was called to an emergency landing of an ultra-light plane near Smartt Field in St. Charles County Sunday afternoon. The incident happened just after 2 pm at the north end of Smartt Field near Portage des Sioux road.

The plane had developed engine trouble and the pilot decided to land at Smartt Field. While landing the planes landing gear collapsed causing the plane to spin out of control and stopping in a soybean field.

The pilot walked away with no injuries.

The FAA has been notified and is sending personnel to conduct an investigation.
