Underground fire causes power outages across St. Louis area; 6,300 affected

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- An underground fire in north city caused power outages across the St. Louis area. The fire was electrical and it all started in a manhole at Broadway and Salisbury around 10:30p.m. Wednesday night. The fire has been smothered and crews are working to fix the problem.

Ameren officials say some equipment malfunctioned and started the fire.

As of 5 a.m. more than 6,300 Ameren customers in Grand Center, the Central West End, Hyde Park and the Jeff VanderLou neighborhoods were still without power.
