CHULA VISTA, CA (CNN) – It sounded like fireworks and thunder — and a power plant along the waterfront near San Diego fell into a pile of dust.
The South Bay Power Plant in Chula Vista was imploded this morning.
Officials say it took about 300 pounds of dynamite to bring it down.
Once all the debris is cleaned up, officials will get to work building a public park, hotel and industrial development.
It’s part of a larger plan to build up the area along the San Diego Bay.
The power plant was shut down at least two years ago.
