JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KTVI)- Governor Jay Nixon has ordered that U.S. and Missouri flags at all state government buildings in Washington County be flown at half-staff on Wednesday. The order is in honor of Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Parsons, 31, who died in the line of duty Saturday. His funeral is Wednesday.
On Dec. 16, Parsons was shot by a man while helping emergency responders place an unconscious woman in an ambulance early Saturday morning in Mineral Point, MO, east of Potosi. The unconscious woman was later identified as the murder suspect’s mother. The shooting suspect, 30 year old Gary Sancegrow, fled into the woods but was picked up at a road checkpoint late Saturday afternoon..
Sancegrow has been charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action.
Parsons had only been a deputy for two months and was still in training. He graduated from the law enforcement academy in May and then worked briefly as a corrections officer.
U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in Washington County will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Wednesday.
