ST. LOUIS (AP) – Washington University in St. Louis says it will reach its $2.2 billion fundraising goal two years ahead of schedule, so the Board of Trustees set a new goal — $2.5 billion by June 30, 2018.

The new goal for the university’s “Leading Together” campaign was announced Friday.

The university says the campaign that began in October 2012 has brought in $2.12 billion as of Dec. 31. The original goal was to raise $2.2 billion by July 2018.

More than 120,000 alumni, parents and others have supported the campaign.

Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton says the money will help Washington University have a greater impact on the St. Louis community, the nation and the world.
