CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI)- Authorities are investigating after a water main break was reported early Wednesday morning at Chesterfield Mall. It’s currently affecting employees and customers who shop at Dillard’s.

The store is closed while crews work to fix the problem.

According to the Monarch Fire Protection District, an eight inch main-broke on the north end of the mall. It happened on the second floor of the mall and the third floor entrance to Dillard`s. The store’s basement floor makes its third floor entrance on the mall`s second floor.

Fire officials say water was gushing  inside of Dillard`s and was also coming up from the ground immediately outside of the store.

Other parts of the mall have not been impacted. The mall is still open.

Dave Schmitt, a Battalion Chief for the Monarch Fire Protection District, called the damage to Dillard`s substantial. ‘There`s significant damage to all three levels of Dillard`s-nothing into the mall proper at this point. Looks like the suspended ceiling is coming down and there`s damage to the store goods and some of the offices in Dillard`s,’ said Schmitt.

Schmitt says it took crews about 30 minutes to get the water turned off.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt.
