St. Louis Weather:
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A warm and humid start to Thursday with dangerous heat and high temperatures expected to reach 97 degrees. The record for today is 100 degrees. There is an excessive heat warning in effect from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm.
The hazy conditions the past couple of days have been the result of dust that was swept off the Sahara Desert more than a week ago. That plume has reached us here in the US.
The question all week has been the chance of a pattern change and some heat relief. There is a cold front that is slowly working our way. It’s weak and doesn’t have a lot of energy for cooling rains or winds. There is enough of a shift in the atmosphere that our temperatures will drop out of the danger range.
There is a decent chance for thunderstorms tonight, most likely after midnight. A few of the storms may produce strong winds, hail, and potentially brief, localized flash flooding. They should sweep through the area between midnight to 5:00 am.
Friday’s temperatures should reach the mid-90s. The weekend is expected to be cooler and less humid. Enjoy it because triple digits will be back next week.
