JUPITER, FL (KTVI) - Roger Dean Stadium, a $28 million baseball complex, is home to the St. Louis Cardinals from mid-February until the season begins. And though fans will have to travel a bit further to see their team they’ll get an experience that’s much closer.

“You get to be five feet away from some of the biggest players on the Cardinals team and it’s a lot of fun," says Mike Bauer, general manager of Roger Dean Stadium.

Here’s a great sales pitch: a new program at spring training called the VIP Batting Practice Experience. For $30, you can come into the stadium an hour earlier and get to stand on the field behind the batting cage while your favorite St. Louis sluggers take pre-game swings.

The Cardinals typically draw 6,500 people to Roger Dean Stadium, which seats about 7,000.

If you’re planning to visit this spring, be sure to get your tickets early. To make things easier, there’s a new program this year that allows season ticket holders to create their own accounts, get tickets emailed and be able to print them out at home.

What about when the team is on the road or there isn’t a game? What else should you do in Jupiter?

“That’s real easy – the beach,” Bauer says.

Palm Beach, located about 20 minutes from Roger Dean Stadium, is one of several beaches you can visit. Whether it’s swimming, fishing or boating, there’s plenty to enjoy in the area.

Local golf courses are a big draw as well and the local pros love to see St. Louisans, saying they’re some of the nicest people they’ve ever met. You might even run into your favorite Cardinals player on the golf course. Hey, it can’t be all work all the time!

There are also a lot of options for great meals, be it a famous spot or just a corner grill. A few minutes from the stadium is Harbourside Place, which offers a variety of dining, shopping, and hotels.

You can buy some peanuts, Cracker Jack, and do so much more in Jupiter, Florida; you truly won’t care if you never get back.
