WOOD RIVER, IL (KTVI) – The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged a man and woman in connection with an armed robbery, in which prosecutors believe the woman helped set up the victim.

According to Wood River Deputy Police Chief Dan Bunt, the robbery occurred September 7 before 8:30 p.m. behind an apartment complex on Thompson Street. Officers were called to the 100 block of Park Avenue after the victim was discovered on a bystander’s porch with a head injury.

The victim told police he was with a female acquaintance parked by the apartment building when two men in dark hoodies approached his vehicle. The men were armed with handguns and ordered the victim to get out of the car and hand over his property.

The victim said one of the suspects struck him in the head with a gun as he attempted to exit the vehicle. The suspect’s gun went off and the victim was able to run away and seek help.

Bunt said investigators determined the female acquaintance helped to “set up” the victim for the robbery.

On September 8, a Wood River detective was driving the victim back to the scene of the crime just after midnight when they noticed the female acquaintance in a silver Jeep. Patrol officers were notified and responded to the area.

Following a brief chase, Bunt said officers took the female into custody, as well as the man driving the Jeep. A handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Prosecutors charged 18-year-old Mariah Allen and 20-year-old Jaron Petty with felony armed robbery. Petty was also charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer. Both Allen and Petty were jailed on $100,000 bond.
