TAMPA, FL – A Florida woman survived being stabbed 32 times four years ago by her boyfriend. Melissa Dohme is now engaged to someone else. She fell in love with a first responder who helped save her life.

“I think it’s fate. He doesn’t know what it’s called. But it’s fate,” Melissa tells WTVT-TV reporter Jennifer Epstein.

Cameron was one of the firefighters called to the scene to help save Melissa. He was in the crowd 10 months after the stabbing when she shared her story.

He invited her to the firehouse for dinner with the rest of the people who helped save her life. The more they talked, the more she realized she was falling for her hero.

They’ve been together ever since. He has stayed by her side through the countless surgeries, speech therapy sessions and and physical therapy appointments. He even held her hand in court when the man who attacked her was sentenced to life in prison with no parole.

Camerone knew she was the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. He proposed to her on the pitcher’s mound at a Tampa Ray’s game. They will be getting married this march.
