Wood River Welcomes Marine Home

WOOD RIVER, IL (KTVI)-- Folks in Wood River turn out for a special welcome home for one of America’s heroes.

Corporal Luke Malone arrived home after serving four and half years in the marines.

Most recently he spent six months in Afghanistan.

Close to 100 family members and friends and local residents greeted him warmly.

There were many tears of joy shed.  Luke is a 2008 graduate of Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto.

He`s been able to visit family and friends in the past but this time he`s home for good.

Organizers hope that Thursday`s event sparks an interest among all people in the area to hold special welcome home ceremonies whenever a man or woman returns home after service to the country.

It was an emotional scene here one charged with patriotism, relief and love.

Corporal Malone`s girlfriend says he plans to attend college.
