(KTVI) - The St. Louis Cardinals ace Yadier Molina has torn ligaments in his thumb and will need surgery. That's the word from the Cardinals Thursday afternoon.
Molina was injured during Wednesday night's game vs. Pirates. That means Molina will be out 8 to 12 weeks and will miss the All-Star Game this weekend.
With surgery, he could be out for the rest of the season. Molina is one of the Cardinals' most valuable hitters and is the ball club's most valuable player.
This is a huge injury for a team that is fighting to stay in the Division race.
