FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL (KTVI) – The Y0u Paid For It Team investigates an $850,000 interchange beautification project in Fairview Heights that certainly didn’t turn out the way it was supposed to.  The project at I-64 and Route 159 was supposed to have a natural look with prairie grass and other natural plantings. But the grass didn’t grow as planned, and there were other missteps. As a result the planned beautification that cost taxpayers $700,000 in federal funds and $150,000 in local funds has turned into a big eyesore.

The mayor says the city is trying to get control of the project so it can mow down the plantings taxpayers shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars to put in.
