PEVELY, MO (KTVI) - A citizens group in Pevely shows you can fight city hall and win.

Stephanie Haas who was fired as the city clerk because she often sided with citizens is now the Mayor of Pevely.

Voters elected her Mayor in this past election.

The man she defeated was the Acting Mayor who led the charge to oust her from the clerk's job. Haas won with 71 percent of the vote.

You Paid For It did many reports on the battles in Pevely between city leaders and citizens.

It started when the former Mayor John Knobloch charged taxpayers for his families cell phone use. Then he got a sweetheart deal from Aldermen that meant he didn't have to pay back thousands of dollars the State Auditor said he owed.

Aldermen Ed Walters took over as acting Mayor. He proceeded to rile citizens up even more, by supporting a measure to move citizen’s comments to the end of the board meeting after aldermen had already voted on issues.

Residents like Erin Kasten organized a citizen’s revolt. Her group threw its support behind the fired City Clerk Stephanie Haas who walked away the winner in the past election becoming Pevely's first female Mayor.
