HAZELWOOD, MO (KTVI) - A multi-million dollar bet the City of Hazelwood made on landing a plant to make electric vans may need to wait. Emerald Automotive was originally supposed to build the plant this year. It got a $3 million loan from Hazelwood. It also received a $2 million loan from a state agency.

Hazelwood insisted the deal would create more than 600 new jobs when the plant was built on one of the city's many vacant sites. Now, it seems the plant may be at least 3 years away.

Investigator Elliott Davis asked the Emerald Spokesman If he could guarantee the plant would be built here. The answer, "Well, you can't guarantee anything."

The federal government has already bailed out on Emerald. It was supposed to get a $120 Million Dollar loan from the Department of Energy. Feds backed out and didn't give the company any money. Patrick Ishmael from the Show Me Institute calls this a questionable deal for taxpayers.
