ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The You Paid For It Team discovered that taxpayers paid $2.8 million dollars eight years ago for a study of a proposed North-South MetroLink route.

The East-West Gateway Council spent that money.

Nothing was done with the first study that’s just been sitting on the shelf gathering dust.

But Mayor Francis Slay wants to spend another $2 million dollars to study it again even though he’s on his way out the door.  He says a lot could have changed in 8 years.

Slay is not running for re-election.

The Mayor who sat down with investigator Elliott Davis says the $2 million will pay for the new study would come from the office of City Treasurer Tishaura Jones.

But East-West Gateway Council admits even if you end up spending a total of almost $5 million studying the North-South route, chances are slim that the actual project will ever get build.
