COLUMBIA, MO (KTVI) – Mizzou football Head Coach Gary Pinkel has been known to sign his recruits from Missouri and Texas. But this year’s National Signing Day brought the Tigers a player not born in those states or any state, but rather, Nigeria.

According to the Missourian, Franklin Agbasimere has signed his National Letter of Intent with the University of Missouri. Since there was no organized football near his village, Agbasimere, who was born in Lagos, Nigeria, got attracted to football by watching games on ESPN.

Without playing a down of football, Agbasimere earned a chance to come to America to play. The Ejike Ugboaja Foundation camp, an organization that helps Nigerian athletes earn scholarships, gave Agbasimere the opportunity to impress scouts with his athleticism. Montverde Academy, a college preparatory school in Orlando, welcomed Agbasimere to their school.

Agbasimere says he will pursue business studies this fall in Columbia.
