The Cardinals struggles at home continued on Thursday night, a 12-5 drubbing at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers. The loss drops the Redbirds season record at Busch Stadium to 30-38 with just 13 home contests remaining in the season. The loss also knocked the Cardinals out of the second Wild Cards spot in the National League. The idle New York Mets took over the second spot with the Cards loss.
In Thursday night’s loss, Cardinals starting pitcher Jaime Garcia struggled, lasting just three and two third innings, allowing five runs, two of them being back to back Brewers home runs. Cards relief pitcher Mike Mayers didn’t help things allowing six runs in just one inning of work. Kolten Wong’s fourth inning two run homer gave the Cardinals some hope, making it a 5-3 game, but it was all Brewers after that.
