The Cardinals avoided a possible three game sweep to their division the Cubs, winning 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium III.

Carlos Martinez pitched seven innings allowing just one run to get the win. Martinez is a perfect 3-0 for the Cards in the early season. The right hander also helped with his bat. Martinez blooped a single to shallow right field in the second inning to give St. Louis a 4-0 lead. Matt Holliday provided the power, hitting a two run homer in the first inning for a quick 2-0 Cardinals lead. It was Holliday's third home run of the young season.

Trevor Rosenthal pitched a perfect 9th inning, striking out the side to earn his 100th career save. The Cardinals (8-7), head West for their next seven games, beginning Friday night in San Diego.
