Cardinals lose World Series to Red Sox 6-1 in Game 6

(KTVI)– The St. Louis Cardinals have fallen to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series after losing 6-1 in Game 6.

It was a night of stranded runners for the Cardinals.

Allen Craig singled to deep left and Yadier Molina singled to left in the 2nd inning. Craig moved to third and Molina moved to second on a wild pitch by John Lackey. Jon Jay struck out swinging and the Cardinals strand two runners in the 2nd inning.

Shane Victorino hits one off the green monster and drives in 3 with bases loaded double. The Red Sox lead 3-0 in the 3rd inning.

Cardinals lead-off with an Allen Craig single followed by an error by Dustin Pedroia allowing Yadier Molina to reach.

David Freese struck out looking and the Cardinals strand two more runners in the 4th inning.

Stephen Drew hits the first pitch of the bottom of the 4th for his first home run of the World Series. Boston leads 4-0.

Lance Lynn relieved Michael Wacha in the bottom of the 4th inning. Mike Napoli singled to right scoring Jacoby Ellsbury. David Ortiz moved to second. Red Sox lead 5-0.

Shane Victorino singled to the left scoring Ortiz. Bases loaded. Red Sox lead 6-0.

Seth Maness relieved Lynn in the bottom of the 4th. Xander Bogaerts struck out swinging.

Jon Jay reached on an infield single to shortstop. Matt Carpenter singled to right. Cardinals strand two more in the 5th inning.

Kevin Siegrist relieved Maness in the 5th inning. Ellsbury was safe at first on an error by M. Carpenter.

Carlos Martinez relieved Siegrist in the bottom of the 6th.

Daniel Descalso singled to right in the top of the 7th. Matt Carpenter doubled to left, Descalso to third.

Carlos Beltran singled to left scoring Descalso, Carpenter to third. Cardinals down 6-1 in the 7th inning.

Beltran goes to second on a wild pitch by Lackey. Holliday walked.

Junichi Tazawa relieved Lackey. Craig smashed one at first but Napoli blocked it. Cardinals leave the bases loaded in the 7th inning.

Brandon Workman relieved Tazawa for the Red Sox in the 8th inning.

Randy Choate relieved Martinez for the Cardinals in the bottom of the 8th. Ellsbury walked. Trevor Rosenthal relieved Choate. Pedroia grounded into fielder’s choice to second. Ellsbury out at second. Pedroia to second on balk by Rosenthal. Ortiz was intentionally walked. Napoli struck out looking. Gomes grounded out to pitcher.

Red Sox lead 6-1 at the top of the 9th.

Koji Uehara relieved Workman in the top of the 9th. Jay flied out to the left. Descalso flied out to left. Carpenter struck out swinging.

The Red Sox won 6-1. They haven’t sealed a World Series at Fenway since 1918.
