Cardinals prepare to host possible tiebreaker game at Busch Stadium

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- With three games to go in the season, the St. Louis Cardinals’ need three wins to come out on top on the National League Central Division. But nipping at their heels are the Pittsburgh Pirates, just 1 1/2 games behind the Cardinals.

In the event that the Cardinals and the Pirates finish the regular season tied, a tiebreaker game will be held at Busch Stadium on Monday, September 29th. The winner of that game wins the National League Central Division. The Cardinals have home-field advantage since they beat the Pirates 11 out of 19 games this season.

The game would be considered part of the regular season.  The winner of the tiebreaking game will advance to the National League Division Series while the other team will advance to the National League Wild Card game.

As of this post, the game time has yet to be determined. Gates will open one and a half hours prior to first pitch. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and 1120 KMOX.
