Cards complete Sweep of Royals with 11-8 Win

The Cardinals completed their weekend sweep in Kansas City with an 11-8 victory over the Royals. Carlos Beltran and Yadier Molina homered in the win. For Beltran it was his 20th home run of the season and gave the Cardinals an early 3-0 1st inning lead. Molina’s 10th homer of the year gave the Cards a 6-5 lead in the 6th inning.

Victor Marte got the win in relief of Lance Lynn. The Cards starting pitcher struggled giving up six runs in 5 and a third innings pitched. Allen Craig contribued two hits and two RBI in the 11 run outburst. The Cardinals scored 30 runs in the three game sweep.

The weekend sweep gives the Cardinals a record of 38-35. They now trail the first place Reds by just two games. Cincinnati lost on Sunday to the Twins. The Cardinals open a three game series at Miami on Monday with Jake Westbrook pitching.
