Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez threw the first complete game shutout of his career as Washington pounded Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals 10-0. It’s the Cardinals third time being shut out in their last four games. Over those four games, the Cardinals offense has produced one run!

Wainwright lasted just two and two-thirds innings before being lifted from the game. He allowed six runs and nine hits. His record for the season drops to 13-11. Gonzalez allowed just five Cardinals hits over the nine inning shutout. Jon Jay has two of those hits.

The loss drops the Cardinals nine and a half games back of the first place Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central Division race with 30 games remaining in the season. But the Cardinals still hold the NL Wild Card lead over the Pirates by a half game and the Dodgers by one game.

Saturday’s Cardinals at Nationals game will be seen right here on Fox 2. Our “Red Zone” pre game coverage starts at 1:30 pm, with the first pitch at 3:05 pm.
