The Cardinals dug a 3-0 hole with their top pitcher this season on the mound, but the offense rallied for a 4-3 triumph over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night at Busch Stadium. Carlos Martinez allowed three runs in the first three innings, but settled down after. The Cardinals offense came to life in the bottom of the third inning when they got two run home runs each by Matt Carpenter and Stephen Piscotty, to take a 4-3 lead.

Martinez and the bullpen protected that lead, as Martinez pitched seven innings en route to his 14th win of the year. Kevin Siegrist pitched a scoreless eighth inning for his 15th hold of the season, while Seung Hwan Oh threw a scoreless ninth inning and picked up his 17th save of the year.

The win keeps the Cardinals just a half game back of the final NL Wild Card playoff spot. The Mets, who are just ahead of the Redbirds, also won on Friday night.
