Left handed pitchers were in the news for the Cardinals on Saturday. Jaime Garcia, who is competing for the fifth starter spot in the Cardinals pitching rotation was scratched from tomorrow’s scheduled start. Garcia approached the team’s medical staff on Saturday and told them of his left shoulder fatigue. Garcia is less than a year removed from major shoulder surgery. Marco Gonzales, also in the competition for the fifth starter spot with Carlos Martinez will get the start for the Cardinals on Sunday against the Mets.

The Cardinals also announced that they have traded left handed relief pitcher Sam Freeman to the Texas Rangers for either a player to be named later or cash. Freeman was not going to make the 25 man roster to start the regular season and would have had to clear waivers to be sent to the minor leagues.
