(KTVI)-After taking an early four run lead, the San Diego Padres held on to win 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night. Cardinals’ pitcher Lance Lynn (11-5) allowed four runs in five innings.

Padres starter Edinson Volquez retired the first nine Cardinal batters in order, then allowed three runs on four hits, two walks and two wild pitches in the fourth and fifth innings.

Brock Peterson, a 29-year-old rookie called up to replace the injured Matt Holliday, had an RBI groundout in his first major league at-bat.

It was a full house at Busch Stadium. A sellout crowd honored Red Schoendienst with many fans receiving a replica 1940’s jersey as a game giveaway.
