Yadier Molina homered twice and Adam Wainwright threw seven shutout innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium. The win gives the Redbirds the series win over Chicago, two games to one.

Matt Carpenter also homered for St. Louis. He had been 0 for 28 lifetime against Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta in the regular season. The two run blast was Carp's eighth homer of the year. The Cardinals remained hot winnning for the eighth time in their last nine games, while the slumping Cubs have lost three of their last four games.

Molina recorded the third multi-homer game of his career. His last came on Aug. 21, 2011 at Wrigley Field. He drilled a two-run homer off Arrieta (4-3) in the second inning and added a solo blast in the eighth.

Wainwright (3-3) allowed four hits in a 102-pitch outing, his best of the 2017 season.

Fox 2 Sports reporter Zac Choate was in the Cardinals locker room for the post game report.
