Lance Lynn lasted just two-thirds of an inning as the Pirates got to the Cardinals for seven runs in the first inning en route to a 10-5 win on Thursday night at Busch Stadium. Only three of the run were earned against Lynn, due to a throwing error by Matt Carpenter. Pedro Alvarez hit a two run homer in the seven run first inning for Pittsburgh. Alvarez and Neil Walker had three hits and two runs batted in each to lead the Pirates.

The Cardinals made a game of it, closing the 7-0 deficit to 7-5 in seventh inning.  Yadier Molina drove in three of those runs with a two run single in the first inning and a sac fly in the seventh.

The Cardinals still won the series from the Pirates two games to one and lead Pittsburgh by six games in the National League Central division.
