The Cardinals September slide continued on Thursday night at the hands of the Reds on Thursday night in Cincinnati. The final score: Reds 11 – Cardinals 0. The Reds got home runs from Brandon Phillips and Todd Frazier and shutout pitching from John Lamb and four relief pitchers. The Cardinals pitching was sub par. Jaime Garcia started the game and allowed six run in four and a third innings. The bullpen allowed five more runs, Mitch Harris (3) and Sam Tuivailala (2). It’s the Cardinals six loss in their last eight games.

The good news from the game; the return of Matt Adams. He pinch hit in the ninth inning and singled to right. It was Adams first action since May 26th, when he tore a quad muscle in his leg.

The Brewers beat the Pirates 6-4 in 13 innings on Thursday night, so the Cardinals maintain their four and a half game lead over Pittsburgh in the NL Central division race.
