Cardinals rookie sensation pitcher Alex Reyes pitched seven shutout innings in leading the Redbirds to a 3-0 win over the Giants on Sunday in San Francisco.

Reyes allowed just four hits and struck out six in raising his record to 3-1 and lowering his ERA to 1.03. Another rookie, Aledmys Diaz provided the early offense with a two run homer in the third inning. Fox Diaz, it’s his 16th home run of the season. Jhonny Peralta added an rbi single in the eighth inning, making it a 3-0 lead.

The Cardinals won the final two games of the big four game set with the Giants, earning them a series split. The National League Wild Card race is super close with 13 games remaining in the regular season. The New York Mets lead the Giants by one game and the Cardinals trail San Francisco by one game. The top two advance to that wild card playoff game.
