Adam Wainwright’s dominant pitching performance led the Cardinals to a 7-1 series win over the Braves on Wednesday night in Atlanta. Wainwright won his Major League best sixth game of the young season, pitching eight innings, while allowing just one run and striking out six. Matt Holliday, Matt Carpenter and Peter Bourjos sparked the Cards offense with three hits each. Bourjos hit his first home run as a Cardinal, while Holliday drove in three runs.
Wainwright raised his season record to 6-2 and now has a 2.02 earned run average. The Cardinals won the series from Atlanta, capturing two of the three games to raise their season record to 18-17.. The Cardinals take Thursday off before opening a three game series in Pittsburgh on Friday night with Michael Wacha on the mound.
