Adam Wainwright suffered the worst loss of his career, lasting just two innings, while surrendering nine runs in the Reds 10-0 whitewashing of the Cardinals on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium. Cincinnati hit Wainwright for six first inning runs, then Jay Bruce smacked a three run homer in the second inning to make it a 9-0 game. Michael Wacha came on for Wainwright and settled things down, pitching four scoreless innings, while striking out seven.
Homer Bailey pitched into the eighth inning in getting the win. The Cardinals finished the home stand with a 5-2 record. Pittsburgh won their game 7-1 over Milwaukee on Wednesday and now trail the Cards by just a half game. The two teams meet this weekend in Pittsburgh for a three game series.
