(KTVI) - In May, college is not far off for many seniors. So when do you start talking to your kids about college? Psychotherapist Dr. Russell Hyken tells Margie Ellisor about his answer to that question.
Dr. Hyken recommended that the college conversation begin when the little one enters pre-school.
- Parents should share their college experiences and talk about the importance of education. They should explain how careers like being a doctor or teacher means going to school for many years.
- Serious conversation about attending college should start during 7th and 8th grade.
- Prepare for life after high school before the first high school bell rings
- In 9th grade, students should participate in initial meeting with their guidance counselors.
